Earth HourEarth Hour
In 2023, we continued to respond to Earth Hour jointly launched by the Society of Wilderness and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) for three years in a row. In addition, we worked with subsidiaries and partners to participate in this event to expand our influence and enable more people to understand the importance of environmental change. Also, we donated the electricity costs saved during Earth Hour in 2023 to the Taiwan Foundation for the Blind—SO BRIGHT for it to purchase dust-proof clothing and lockers to help the visually impaired friends to make dried fruit gift boxes and handmade soap products with adequate equipment, ensuring stable income. Adoption of Zhanghe Wetland - Initiating Wetland Conservation EffortsAdoption of Zhanghe Wetland - Initiating Wetland Conservation Efforts
Zhanghe Wetland, New Taipei City's first urban artificial wetland, plays a crucial role in wastewater treatment, ecological conservation, habitat restoration, and flood regulation. Covering a total area of 6.7 hectares, with 0.9 hectares of water surface, the wetland is home to 116 butterfly species, 48 species of dragonflies and damselflies, and 369 plant species. It also sequesters 41 metric tons of carbon annually, equivalent to the carbon emissions from 20 years of electricity usage for a single household. Hotai Finance is the first company to adopt Zhanghe Wetland, partnering with public agencies to maintain the wetland environment. Beyond donating 50 waterproof frog suits to enable public participation in environmental education activities, in 2023, 132 Hotai volunteers rolled up their sleeves to participate in wetland conservation efforts. These volunteers removed over 200 kilograms of invasive species (such as Mikania micrantha), contributing to the regular maintenance of this ecosystem, which nurtures over 600 species of flora and fauna, ensuring the harmonious coexistence of species and their environment.Zhanghe Wetland, New Taipei City's first urban artificial wetland, plays a crucial role in wastewater treatment, ecological conservation, habitat restoration, and flood regulation. Coastal Reforestation and Beach Cleanup InitiativesCoastal Reforestation and Beach Cleanup Initiatives
In April 2023, during World Earth Month, Hotai Finance responded to the Hotai Group’s beach cleanup campaign by launching the "Nationwide Beach Cleanup and Plastic Reduction Action." This initiative mobilized 477 volunteers across 14 beaches in Taiwan, who collectively removed 1,821.5 kilograms of marine debris on the cleanup day. Additionally, Hotai Finance continues to support the Group's "TOYOTA One Car, One Tree" project. In October 2023, more than 1,500 tree seedlings were planted along the coast of Zhuangwei, Yilan. This effort not only contributes to carbon sequestration but also aids in soil and water conservation, helping to address the ongoing issue of coastline erosion in Keelung. In the spirit of caring for Taiwan's land, we have integrated ESG into our business strategy and core business. We adopt our core expertise and planned the Green Energy Social Charity Action project in 2023. The Catholic Huakuang Social Welfare Foundation in Hsinchu, which was in urgent need of solar street lights. The 13 street lights in the foundation were not repaired for a long time, affecting the road safety of people with disabilities and the foundation’s employees at night. We immediately launched a project to replace the old lights with solar ones, to help them with green energy and light up every corner of society with green electricity, while continuing to move toward inclusive society and environmental sustainability. In the spirit of caring for Taiwan's land, we have integrated ESG into our business strategy and core business.
